Safe Travel with Pets
Preparation before departure
Traveling with a pet can be a wonderful experience, but it requires careful preparation. Make sure your pet is healthy for the trip by consulting with your veterinarian. Remember to update vaccinations if necessary and discuss any health issues related to travel. Make sure you have all the necessary documents, including vaccination records, a recent health certificate, and a clear photo of your pet in case of loss.
Traveling by car or plane
Whether you are traveling by car, plane or train, precautions are necessary. In cars, use a pet carrier or safety harness to keep your pet safe during the trip. If you are traveling by plane, choose airlines that accept pets and have pressurized holds for pets traveling in the cargo area.
At the hotel or vacation rental
Choose a pet-friendly accommodation and find out what their pet policy is. Before you let your pet loose in a new room, make sure it is safe, with no dangerous objects or small openings through which he could escape.
During the trip
Travel can be stressful for pets, so stay calm and reassuring. Bring familiar toys or blankets for comfort. Pack enough of your pet's usual food and water to avoid upsetting their stomach with new foods.
In case of emergency
Keep a list of emergency numbers for veterinarians in the area you are visiting, in case your pet needs medical attention. Consider bringing a first aid kit for your pet with essential supplies, including bandages, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, and any medications your pet may need.
